As you may know, Enoch City has faced some serious flooding issues in the past few years. In 2014, the city council and staff felt that the best way to address the need was to create a storm drain company to safely move storm water out of the city. When faced with the challenge of how to fund the new storm drain company, the decision was made to lower the monthly sewer fee by $2.00 and then charge a new $2.00 storm drain fee with a net zero effect on the total bill. At that time, it was believed that the sewer company could withstand the reduced revenue and still remain solvent. It appeared to be a win/win solution; the citizens would benefit from a new storm drain company without having to pay more on their monthly utility bill. However, the decreased monthly revenue combined with increasing operating costs has taken its toll on the sewer company. In the upcoming fiscal year, the sewer company is projected to begin losing money, which is unsustainable. As a result, the city council has made the decision to restore $2.00 to the monthly sewer fee. Effective on July’s bill, which you will receive the first week in August, the sewer fee will increase from $22.00 to $24.00 for customers within city boundaries and from $29.00 to $31.00 for customers outside city boundaries.
